Into The Woods: A Love Story

Kari is the 7th generation to spend summers in her family’s cottage on the coast in beautiful Sorrento, Maine. So, when it came time to plan her intimate wedding on the property, it made perfect sense when she contacted Lulu & Co. Event  Design to help plan her wedding. My first visit in the late last fall proved to be bitter cold, but not even these seasonal temperatures could prevent one from realizing how special a spot this truly was. Met by a gorgeous meadow that gently spilled toward the steely blue- grey of the Atlantic ocean, there could not have been a more perfect spot for a memorable family and community focused wedding day. Kari and Justin brought great ideas to the table that were full of thoughtfulness and individuality and truly reflected who they are as a couple. While they grew up together in Arizona, their excitement was palpable as they could not wait to showcase all of what Maine had to offer to their guest from near and far! Ideas came easily in such a beautiful place, and the couple eagerly awaited the time they could share in a private picnic on a small family owned island nestled in the forest green pines of the Bar Harbor region.

          A Nautical Romance

With a backdrop as beautiful as Maine, Kari and Justin knew that a timeless nautical feel of navy and grays and clean white pallets for flowers would have to play a part in their day. We chose to pay homage to the wooded meadow by layering freeform shapes of moss draped throughout both ceremony and reception areas. The nautical feel was carried throughout by weaving thick white ropes through soft ruffly blossoms of locally sourced flowers. Gorgeous arrangement of ranunculus, garden roses and bending veronica were interwoven in bouquets and centerpieces. The ceremony, nestled in the backyard of the family home where the couple spent months cutting and preparing custom benches to seat their 75 guests comfortably. We worked alongside cutting and measuring logs to to create a one of a kind arbor draped in moss, blossoms while weaving oversized white soft rope adding to that signature nautical style.

Love as Big As The Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean needed no help in creating a sense of serenity in the presence of true love! As the guests arrived, they were asked to embark upon a 5 minute stroll around the peninsula to the wooded meadow. To their great surprise and delight, they were greeted with a clustering of large grey couches and cocktail tables draped in rich navy blue nestled among the tall canopy of trees where they were served some delicious blueberry and lavender lemonade. The scene was set under a large clear top tent with large lanterns hanging down, long wood farm tables and chiavari chairs.

Bar Harbor Catering Company brought their A game for the Mexican inspired pig roast. The food was truly delicious and the libations were flowing as guests danced the night away to the sounds of Wavelength, an amazing band that ensured the dance party lasted well into this beautiful and thoughtfully curated Maine wedding!
